{"id":12635,"date":"2018-10-01T01:00:29","date_gmt":"2018-09-30T23:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/?p=12635"},"modified":"2021-04-25T17:39:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-25T15:39:24","slug":"beyond-meat-and-impossible-foods-awarded-uns-champions-of-the-earth-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/society\/beyond-meat-and-impossible-foods-awarded-uns-champions-of-the-earth-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods Awarded UN\u2019s Champions of the Earth Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 26<sup>th<\/sup> September, The UN announced the winners of their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/championsofearth\">Champions of the Earth Awards<\/a>, which is their highest environmental honor, presented to six outstanding environmental changemakers whose achievements are recognised in categories including Policy Leadership, Entrepreneurial Vision, Science and Innovation, Inspiration and Action, and Lifetime Achievement.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UN, in their annual award ceremony, jointly recognized \u00a0<strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190815174141\/http:\/\/web.unep.org:80\/championsofearth\/laureates\/2018\/impossible-foods-and-beyond-meat\">Beyond Meat\u00a0and\u00a0Impossible Foods<\/a><\/u><\/strong> as winners in the category of Science and Innovation, \u201cfor their revolutionary development of a popular, plant-based alternative to beef, and for their efforts to educate consumers about environmentally conscious alternatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Champions of the Earth\u2019s recognition of work for the environment, Ethan Brown of <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/hot-off-the-vegan-press\/canada-beyond-burger-sold-out-due-to-high-demand\/\">Beyond Meat<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/food-and-beverage\/impossible-ceo-pat-brown-on-their-meat\/\">Patrick Brown<\/a> of Impossible Foods, were awarded on the basis that \u201cCreating meat directly from plants benefits human health and translates into a sustainable future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImpossible Foods and Beyond Meat are joint winners of the Champions of the Earth Award, in the Science and Innovation category. They produce a sustainable alternative to beef burgers that are more environmentally friendly and rival the taste of meat. These winners believe that there is no pathway to achieve the Paris climate objectives without a massive decrease in the scale of animal agriculture.
