The legal breakthrough could pave the way for cultivated meat to be sold in supermarkets within a few years, according to Dutch manufacturers.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Cultivated meat deserves a fair chance and that&#8217;s why we have to make tastings possible&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The motion, proposed by the D66 and VVD parties, was passed in the House of Representatives this week making it legally possible to host public samplings of cultivated meat products. Headquartered in Maastricht, Mosa Meat is backed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/company-news\/mosa-meats-funding-surpasses-an-incredible-75-million\/\">Mitsubishi Corporation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/top-stories\/leonardo-dicaprio-invests-in-cell-cultured-beef-leaders-mosa-meat-and-aleph-farms\/\">Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> amongst others, and recently closed a <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/investments-finance\/mosa-meat-closes-out-its-series-b-round-at-85-million-after-additional-10m\/\">Series B Round<\/a> at $85 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Regulatory approval in Europe<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/cultivated-cell-cultured-biotechnology\/singapore-japan-or-canada-global-pathways-for-cell-cultured-meat-revealed-by-gfi\/\">Regulatory approval<\/a> for cultivated meat in the EU retail market is, on one hand, a clearly defined process, but, on the other hand, likely to be a long one. The European Food Safety Authority conducts a risk assessment and gives a scientific opinion on the safety and nutritional aspects of products, before final approval from the European Commission and representatives from all EU member states.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, meat and dairy lobbies in the EU have been <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.vegconom.de\/usa\/society\/amendment-171-hearings-begin-tomorrow-to-decide-fate-of-plant-based-dairy\/\">attempting to limit the way<\/a> plant-based products can be marketed, and there are concerns that cultivated meat may face similar challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;With minimal use of water, land, and emissions for greenhouse gases and much less animal suffering,&#8221; Tjeerd de Groot of the D66 party told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtlnieuws.nl\/nieuws\/politiek\/artikel\/5294251\/kweekvlees-ontwikkeling-tweede-kamer-proeverijen-motie-vvd-en-d66\">RTL Nieuws<\/a>. &#8220;Cultivated meat deserves a fair chance and that&#8217;s why we have to make tastings possible.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In another step forward for the European cultivated meat industry, the government of the Netherlands has passed a motion to legalize the sampling of cell-cultured meat products.
